🚨 Consumer Alert: Liability Risk Critical

The "Permit" Paradox
(Why they ask YOU to sign)

Executive Summary

  • THE TRAP:"It's faster if you apply for the Homeowner Permit."
  • THE CONSEQUENCE:You just became the General Contractor. You are now liable for injuries, code violations, and worker's comp.
  • THE RULE:Never pull a permit for a contractor. If they can't pull it, they aren't licensed to do the work.

Why do they ask?

There are only two reasons a contractor asks you to pull the permit:

  1. They are not licensed: Cities verify license status before issuing a pro permit.
  2. They have unpaid fines: The city has "red flagged" their account.
🛡️ The "Homeowner Affidavit" Trap: When you sign for a permit, you sign an affidavit stating that YOU are doing the work or supervising it. You just legally absolved the contractor of responsibility.

Verification is Defense

Our algorithm checks permit history. We look for the APPLICANT NAME. If it matches the Business Name, they pass. If it's always "Homeowner", they fail.
